Keeping busy is something that Mario Lopez is great at.
Lopez is not only a two-time Emmy award-winning television host of Extra, he also has his own YouTube channel, which showcases his family of six, including his children Gia and Dominic, his wife Courtney, and dogs Julio and Juanita.
When they’re looking to get away, the family chooses Greater Palm Springs.
Lopez gathers his family, including his mom and mother-in-law, and embarks on a journey through the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens.
“I was so impressed with the zoo,” Lopez says. “The lorikeets were great. I’ve never done anything like that where you walked into a birdcage with beautiful little parrots.”
When entering the aviary, Lopez and his family were given nectar to attract the birds.
“They loved my mom,” he adds. “She had them all over her. It was great.”
The Living Desert is celebrating their “Year of the Giraffe,” a program designed to raise awareness about the animal and to motivate conservation.
“My daughter’s favorite animal is the giraffe,” Lopez reveals. “She got to see I don’t know how many giraffes and she didn’t want to leave.”
Lopez reflects on traveling as a family and emphasizes having things to do that will interest everyone.
“I think every parent has to factor in activities and stuff for the kids to do when they plan a getaway,” he says. “We brought our moms; the kids are having a good time, my wife and I are having a great time, and the moms are having a great time.”
