A Tribe Called Quest did not get nominated for a GRAMMY and Q-Tip is not pleased.
The hip-hop group’s final album with the late MC Phife Dawg, We Got it From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service, was released last November, making it eligible for the 2018 awards presentation.
In a series of Instagram posts, Tip expressed his displeasure with the lack of recognition in no uncertain terms, especially after the group was invited to close the 2017 awards ceremony following the album’s release.
“Y’all f—– busted ya a– to try and get us out there and perform! You think a n—- wanted to f—– go out there and perform after I lost my man? We closed y’all show and we don’t get no f—— nominations? The last Tribe album? My man is gone! We been doing this s— for f—— years!”
“Y’all think it’s some sort of caveat because this is the first time that no white man was nominated in no major categories and s—? We were the most black cultured group out. That’s all we stood on. That’s what we represented. This f—– album we just dropped. This the last Tribe album. It stands with everyone else’s s— that’s up there.”
