Melissa Etheridge campaigned for Bill Clinton in the 1992 presidential race, and “came out” at the Triangle Ball, an LGBT-themed event that took place during Bill Clinton’s January 1993 inaugural festivities.
She hasn’t been as present in this year’s campaign, but she tells Radio.com that she supports Hillary Clinton 100%.
“I was trying to work with Hilary’s camp to get at some rallies, but our schedules never worked out,” she said. Etheridge has been promoting her new album, MEphis Rock and Soul, a collection of covers of covers of ’60s and ’70s soul music.
“It’s so funny, because us gays haven’t even been talked about at all, throughout this whole election process. [But] There’s not many in the gay community that are questioning who they’re gonna vote for.”
“I support Hilary, I don’t think that’s a big surprise. I’m just watching our world come to terms with how America is changing and growing, and the beautiful diversity that we’ve always been, and it’s a beautiful time I think.”
Etheridge also has a business that will likely benefit from a Clinton presidency; she has a cannabis-infused wine company, which is currently only available in California and only to those with a valid cannabis ID. She discusses that more in a lengthy interview with Radio.com that will be live next week.
