"Trump has dragged politics into the gutter, like a WWE wrestling match.”

Lately, Green Day has been promoting Revolution Radio with some ad-libbed jabs at GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. The reason? Billie Joe Armstrong and company couldn’t be bothered to address Trump while writing and recording the album. The very prospect depressed and irritated Armstrong.

“There are no songs about Donald Trump on [Revolution Radio],” Armstrong told Q. ”I made sure of that, because he inspires me to do nothing. Trump has dragged politics into the gutter, like a WWE wrestling match.”

“I’m trying to figure out the whole damn [Trump] thing myself,” he said. “I’m just confused. I have anxiety about the whole thing. You wake up every morning and think, what now? What stupid thing’s going to be said? What new email hack are you going to read about? What racist comment? A lot of my songs come from… not really anger, but anxiety. And feeling lost in the whole game.”

The frontman’s final critique?: “[Trump] has no compassion. He has no empathy for anything except power. That’s all he wants, and he’ll step on anybody to get it. And the thought of a guy like that having his finger on the nuclear button is pretty f—ing scary.”
