A Book of Nude Iggy Pop Sketches is Coming

Iggy insists the portraits are not about his "winkie."

By Hayden Wright

It’s hard to separate Iggy Pop’s body of work from his physical body—in performances and appearances, the free spirit’s lean, lanky frame and penchant for states of undress is just as iconic as his music… or, at least, they go hand-in-hand. That significant dimension of his mystique wasn’t lost on Jeremy Deller, a British artist whose sketching class used Pop as a model for sessions in NYC. Twenty-one artists from ages 19 to 80 drew the rock star in the nude, compiling a collection of sketches that were exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum.

“This wasn’t about my winkie or anything,” Iggy told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s just a documentation of what’s left of me. It’s not the sort of thing I’m going to start doing as a weekend job.”

The sketches have made their way into a coffee table book called Iggy Pop Life Class, published by Heni Publishing. It includes the portraits as well as photography from the drawing sessions, depicting Iggy Pop in all his glory.

Iggy Pop Life Class is available October 20 and can be pre-ordered here.
