After watching artists voice objections to having their music played at Trump rallies, one musician has answered the call.
Bernard Jackson, the lead singer of the R&B group Surface, has teamed with songwriter Lewis Martinee to create “Make America Great Again: The Official American Anthem.”
Perhaps you don’t remember Surface; allow us to help to refresh your memory. They were active from 1983 to 1994, enjoyed some success with- their 1991 hit “The First Time,” which spent a week on the Billboard Hot 100.
“This anthem to American Patriotism is dedicated to all American Patriots, Donald Trump and the millions of people that support his candidacy for the office of President of the United States,” said Jackson in a statement. “It seems like the politicians promise whatever the public wants to hear during the elections and then do the opposite when they get in office. The people have to begin to recognize this pattern and stop being so gullible. That’s why I stand with Donald J. Trump!”
“Musicians need to stand on the side of Freedom of Speech rights,” says Jackson. “Not by limiting their works, but by delivering their works to everyone that wants to listen to them. I was born in Cuba and that is what they do there. They limit freedom of speech. My fellow musicians are really misguided when they play this rights denial game for political brownie points.”
“Mr. Trump will help this country and be better for African Americans. The Democrats take the African American vote for granted,” Jackson continues. “We must make them earn it!”
According to the two songwriters, the new track is a “throwback to Patriotic anthems of our childhood. It is reminiscent of America the Beautiful and God Bless America.”
The ball’s in your court, Hillary.
Patriotic fans will find the song on iTunes.
