Sir George Martin, considered one of the greatest record producers of all-time, has died, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Martin was responsible for signing the Beatles, and also produced and arranged most of their songs, and suggested they replace original drummer Pete Best, leading to Ringo Starr joining the band.

The news of Martin’s death was initially reported by Starr on Twitter, and was later confirmed by Adam Sharp of CA Management. He said (via CBS News), “We can confirm that Sir George Martin passed away peacefully at home yesterday evening, Tuesday March 8th. The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and messages of support.”

“God bless George Martin,” Starr wrote via Twitter. “Peace and love to Judy and his family love Ringo and Barbara George will be missed xx.”
