The ever-evasive Banksy is putting down roots.
Well, sort of.
The probably English street artist is opening Dismaland, a larger-than-life art project that makes a commentary on commodified happiness, institutionalized racism, and the culture of celebrity. Put together along with a slew of notable modern visual artists, the “bemusement park” will also feature musical guests throughout its five week run including Run the Jewels, Kate Tempest, Pussy Riot, Massive Attack, and Peanut Butter Wolf.
“In essence it’s a festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism,” Banksy told The Guardian in an interview. “A place where you can get your counterculture easily available over the counter.”
The trailer turns a typical theme park promo on it’s head, featuring balloons that read “I’m An Imbecile,” dioramas of disasters, the grim reaper in a bumper car, and much, much more.
