"Why would [Dr.] Dre put me in it? I was just a quiet girlfriend who got beat up and told to sit down and shut up."

By E. Parker

Michel’le, an ex-girlfriend of Dr. Dre and a singer in her own right, speaks out about her absence in the film Straight Outta Compton. [See interview below]

In an interview that was recently released by DJ Vlad, the singer, who made a splash with her 1989 self-titled album (on N.W.A’s Ruthless Records), said she was happy to not be represented in the N.W.A story.

“Why would [Dr.] Dre put me in it,” she said. “If they start from where they start from, I was just a quiet girlfriend who got beat up and told to sit down and shut up.”

In the past, Michel’le has discussed the abuse she received at the hands of Dr. Dre, with whom she shares a son, who is 24 years-old. That early abuse, along with an incident in which Dre assaulted a female music video host during N.W.A’s heyday, caused a backlash to the film.

At the time of the interview she had not yet seen the movie. “My part [in the story] probably has no value to what they want to talk about unless they want to talk. I don’t know.”
