Every Song in ‘Minions’ (So Far)

By Courtney E. Smith

The minions are finally getting their very own movie and, as they proved already in the Despicable Me films, they are highly musical creatures. Who could forget the minion renditions of “I Swear,” “Y.M.C.A.” and of course the minion mambo?

In Minions, Kevin, Stuart and Bob find themselves working for an evil villain in London’s swingin’ ’60s, and the film’s soundtrack stays parked right in that glorious musical decade. While some of the film trailers and previews have ventured outside of that genre, the minion’s musical moments are expected to be Beatle-riffic and very “Mellow Yellow.”

In a cute move, the minions sing the Universal theme as the studio logos run–something Pitch Perfect also did.

Opening Credits – The Turtles “Happy Together”

While the minions are being born out of the sea and eventually walking upright on fertile ground, this track plays. It’s pretty on point for this 1960s heavy soundtrack, since the song was released in 1967 and the majority of the film takes place in 1968.

When the Minions Find Sanctuary  – “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”

Sung in minionese, of course!

Kevin, Bob and Stuart Arrive in NYC – The Rolling Stones “19th Nervous Breakdown”

Watching the cute little minion trio try to navigate New York City in the late ’60s is adorable. Boo Ya!

The Nelson Family Rob a Bank – Spencer Davis Group “I’m a Man”

Surprise! [SPOILER] They’re villains!

Getting in to Villain Con – The Doors “Break On Through (To the Other Side)”

Great sight gag here about Orlando (coming soon!)

Spotting Jimi Hendrix’s Guitar – Jimi Hendrix “Foxy Lady”

It only plays for a tiny second but if you’re paying attention you’ll catch it!

Hypnotizing the Palace Guards – “Hair” from the Broadway Musical

If you have a hypno hat, you might be able to pull this off too.

Bob Tries Out the Stretchy Body Suit of Armor – The Kinks “You Really Got Me”

To say things spiral out of control here would be an understatement. But he’s really got Kevin and Stuart, not to mention Queen Elizabeth.

The Minions Try to Get to England – The Box Tops “The Letter”

Another “le boss” bites the dust.

King Bob – The Who “My Generation”

Who would have guessed that little Bob would get that sword out of the stone?

Kevin, Bob and Stuart Sing the Monkees Theme Song “Hey Hey We’re The Monkees”

What they don’t realize is that Scarlet Overkill is leading them right to the torture room.

The Minions Escape to Abbey Road – The Beatles “Love Me Do”

If you blink you’ll miss it, but a little snippet of this plays while the Beatles themselves step on the manhole that Kevin, Bob and Stuart are trying to pop out of – while taking the photo for their legendary album Abbey Road. Or maybe just walking to the studio of the same name, who knows?

Bob Says Goodbye to His Rat Friend – “Auld Lang Syne”

Once again, sung in minionese!

Closing Credits – The Beatles “Got To Get You Into My Life” and Donovan “Mellow Yellow”
