Mastodon put their beards to good use last night (May 31) with a cameo on Game of Thrones.
The band’s Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher and Brent Hinds all played members of the free folk, fighting it out amongst the white walkers. And they weren’t easy to spot with all that hair and those large fur coats.
The guys were invited to appear on the show by GOT co-creator Dan Weiss. The band also sang a song called “White Walker” for the Game of Thrones mixtape, which we’re thinking played a role in their guest spot.
Here’s a photo of the guys in perfect character during the episode and alongside Jon Snow. Emmy anyone?
In a statement, Dailor explains that it was a joy to see his friends murdered and that the catering was top notch on the show, just incase you were wondering. He also gives a few spoilers, so maybe don’t read his message unless you’ve already watched the episode.
It was such an incredible experience to be on set as extras for our collective favorite show Game Of Thrones and to be wildlings murdered and then brought back to life by White Walkers was beyond amazing. I watched my best friends Brent and Bill, murdered right in front of me as I myself was stabbed in the stomach and had my throat slit multiple times, and I didn’t mind at all. It made me love being in Mastodon even more. We are more than privileged and honored to have been a part of one of the greatest stories ever told on film, and the catering wasn’t bad either.
Mastodon aren’t the first musicians to cameo on the show. Coldplay drummer Will Champion played “The Rains Of Castamere” during the “Red Wedding” episode and the members of Sigur Rós appeared as the musicians at Joffrey’s wedding. Of course, Mastodon get the honor of being the first band in battle.
