As anyone who has ever spoken with Ice-T knows, the man is a great conversationalist. Which is probably why he was back on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night (February 25).
Inspired by Body Count‘s recent cover of Suicidal Tendencies‘ “Institutionalized” from last year’s Manslaughter, in which Ice goes ham on a number of things that bug him (the difficulties in losing your password, vegans who get judgey about his lunchtime selections, etc.), Fallon asked him his opinion on some current subjects, including Fifty Shades of Grey.
“Boring!” he said. “Boring: it could have been on Nickelodeon.”
Did his wife Coco convince him to see it? “I wanted to see what all the women were talking about. Maybe I could have learned some moves! I didn’t go see Magic Mike, that’s where I draw the line!
“But it kept building up, and I’m like, ‘What’s gonna happen?’ and [Coco] told me that that’s how the books are. It’s kinda like Lost: you think something’s gonna happen, and you keep watching it! Fifty Shades of Grey? That’s nothing! One shade of black: that’s all you need!”
Quite understandably, Fallon asked him “Is that on Netflix?”
Fallon’s next question was about winter, which—despite his name suggesting otherwise—Ice is not in favor of: “I hate the winter! Black people don’t like the winter, man!”
The New Jersey resident has less of a problem with that state’s controversial governor, Chris Christie, who is rumored to be considering a run for president.
“Well, why not? He’s a crook, but they’re all crooks to me! The worst thing he did, he created a traffic jam,” he said, in something of an understatement and oversimplification.
“People ask me, ‘Ice, why don’t you get into politics?’ I’m like, ‘I got out of crime!'”
Elsewhere in the interview, Ice and Fallon played clips of old cartoons that the legendary MC allegedly provided voice overs for (he actually has done v.o. work for a number of projects, including the classic Batman Beyond cartoon and video games including Grand Theft Auto and Scarface: The World Is Yours).
