Steven Tyler Contributes Vocals to ‘Sin City’ Soundtrack: Hear ‘Skin City’

See what they did there?

By Brian Ives

If you were thinking of using an iconic hard rock artist from the ’70s for the Sin City: A Dame to Kill For soundtrack, the obvious choice would probably be AC/DC. It would be an easy fit, as they have a classic song called “Sin City,”  from their 1978 album, Powerage.

But Sin City director Robert Rodriguez — who also composed most of the music for the film’s score — had other ideas, and instead went with Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.

Tyler is one of the only featured vocalists on the soundtrack album, alongside actress Marci Madison (who isn’t in the film, but has appeared in previous Rodriguez productions including MacheteMachete KillsSpy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D and the TV series From Dusk Til Dawn.

“Skin City” (not “Sin City”) is credited to “Robert Rodriguez featuring Steven Tyler,” and sees Tyler singing over metal guitars and electronic beats, and sounds a bit like some of Aerosmith’s electronic tinged songs from the Just Push Play era.

The Sin City: A Dame to Kill For soundtrack is available now, and the film opens in theaters tomorrow (August 22). Watch the trailer below, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Lady Gaga‘s cameo at 2:49 (she also appeared in Rodriguez’s Machete Kills).

In the meantime, Steven Tyler’s fans may be wondering about the fate of his debut solo album, which he told WZLX’s Carter Alan to expect “in early 2014.” There’s still no release date for that album as of yet, but Tyler and Aerosmith are still on the road, playing dates on their “Let Rock Rule” tour, which also features Slash.
