Mystery Drug Deaths at Toronto Festival Lead to Homicide Investigation

By Staff

Two died and more than a dozen were hospitalized after taking a mystery drug at this past weekend’s Veld Music Festival in Toronto. Now police have launched a homicide investigation to find those who sold the drug to festival-goers.

According to CBC News, police are asking concertgoers to turn over any drugs they purchased to investigators. As of right now, the police has no information on the types of drugs that caused the deaths and illness saying only that it could be “MDMA, it could be ecstasy, it could be GHB.”

Police are also urging the loved ones of those who attended the two-day festival, which featured performances from Armin van Buuren,  Calvin Harris and Iggy Azalea, to seek out medical attention if they see any signs of possible medical distress.

“If anyone you know was at that festival and you have concerns for their behaviour or how they are acting right now, or if they are in any kind of distress, it is important that they go to the hospital immediately and seek medical attention.”

The festival released a statement about the tragic events extending their “heart-felt condolences to the families and friends of these individuals and will keep them in our prayers. Public safety and security have always been the number one priorities of the Veld Music Festival and we will continue to make sure they remain that way and with the highest standard of support.”

With a number of recent deaths at festivals like Electric Daisy in Las Vegas and this past weekend’s HARD Summer in California, New York’s Electric Zoo has released a PSA asking fans to just say no to bringing Molly or any other drugs into the fest. They’ve even made it mandatory for every attendee to check out the PSA before being able to activate their wristband.

The three-day festival was forced to cancel it’s final day last year after two attendees died and four others became critically ill.
