Police are investigating claims that a woman was raped at Michigan’s country-themed Faster Horses Festival, which was headlined by Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Darius Rucker and more.
On the last night of the the three-day country festival, which took place in Brooklyn, Mich., July 17-19, a woman was allegedly raped by three men while navigating the parking lot after she lost her friends, according to Cambridge Township Police Department Chief Larry Wibbeler.
“She was attacked in the dark near the parking area, and there didn’t happen to be anyone around in that parking area,” Wibbeler told MLive.
“She was taken to Allegiance where they checked for injuries, and a rape kit was done and sent to the Michigan State Police lab to check for DNA,” Wibbeler said, however the cops haven’t been able to match the rapists’ DNA with anyone in their database.
A phone call to the police department by Radio.com revealed that there are currently no suspects in the case.
The police are also looking for witnesses and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 517-467-4737.
The manager of media relations at Michigan International Speedway, the venue where the festival took place, told M Live that they’re assisting police in the investigation. “Safety is our No. 1 priority,” manager Brad Kuhbander said. “We work with police, fire, homeland security and the FBI on a regular basis to ensure the safety of all our guests.”
The allegations are the latest in a string of issues at country festivals and concerts. Earlier this week, a drunk driver was arrested after hitting a police officer with his car at a Jason Aldean concert, while another alleged rape occurred at a Keith Urban concert last week in Massachusetts.
