Marianne Faithfull: ‘I Know Who Killed Jim Morrison’

By Courtney E. Smith

In a revealing interview with Mojo magazine, Marianne Faithfull made a revelation: she knows who killed the Doors frontman Jim Morrison.

Unsurprisingly, she places the blame on her then-boyfriend and heroin dealer Jean de Breiteuil.

“[H]e went to see Jim Morrison and killed him,” Faithfull said. “I mean, I’m sure it was an accident. Poor bastard. The smack was too strong? Yeah. And he died. And I didn’t know anything about this. Anyway, everybody connected to the death of this poor guy is dead now. Except me.”

Faithfull famously fell into drug use and a serious heroin addiction for most of the ’70s. In her memoir, Faithfull, she describes it as a lost period and seems to have little memory of the time during which she ended up homeless and addicted.

Faithfull went on in that same interview to comment on the death of Amy Winehouse, saying, “Amy was very, very wary of me. She knew that I knew [she was a drug addict] and she didn’t want me to say anything. There’s a level of narcissism which is all mixed up with self-hatred. I know it well. It’s like a glass wall between you and the world, so that all the love that everybody pours onto you, you don’t feel it. But I can’t think what I could have done apart from take her and [shouts] shake her! ‘You stupid little c**t! Wake up!'”

Faithfull’s new album Give My Love To London, is slated for a Sept. 29 release and contains songs co-written by Nick Cave, Roger Waters, Steve Earle, Tom McRae and Anna Calvi. Her song with Waters can be heard below.
