Chris Young’s ‘Who I Am With You’ Becomes His Sixth No. 1

By Annie Reuter

Chris Young‘s summer is looking up.

After cutting his hand while cooking and being forced to cancel show appearances, the country singer just received his sixth No. 1 single with “Who I Am With You,” which currently sits atop the Mediabase Country Singles chart.

“Yeah, I’m pretty happy right now,” said the singer in a press release. “Everybody is looking for that one person who lets them be themselves and, whether we want to admit it or not, pushes us to be a better person. This song couldn’t say it any better and I’m glad I got to be the person to sing it.”

“Who I Am With You” was written by Marv Green, Jason Sellers and Paul Jenkins.

In an interview with at this year’s ACM Awards, Young explained why he decided to select the song for his album A.M.

“It’s the antithesis of the first single off the record [“Aw Naw”] in that the first one was the love song to tequila,” Young told “It was just like, ‘Let’s go out and drink and have a good time.'”

Current single “Who I Am With You,” however, is as Young describes it a “power ballad, love song. It’s a lot of fun to sing. It’s a real range-y song, which I love. I love having something that challenges me a little bit. Beyond that, it’s just such a cool snapshot moment of what you’d say when you are madly, madly in love with somebody.”

Young said that he was looking for a great love song for his record A.M., and after a publisher friend sent “Who I Am with You” over he instantly fell in love with it.

“It’s something I really believe in and am so happy it’s out,” he said. “We’ve had people come to the front of the show and get down on one knee to ask their girl to marry them during the song. If they’re already calling their shot with, ‘This is our song,’ it’s a good feeling.”
