Death Grips Break Up, Confirm One Last Album for Later This Year

By Kevin Rutherford

R.I.P. Death Grips, 2010-2014.

The experimental hip-hop trio has apparently ceased to exist, according to a post on the group’s Facebook page. Death Grips delivered the news via a scrawled message, which was replicated in the Facebook’s photo caption.

“We are now at our best and so Death Grips is over,” the message starts. “We have officially stopped.”

The post notes that, while all currently scheduled concerts are now canceled as a result, the group’s upcoming double album titled The Powers That B will be released “later this year via Harvest/Third Worlds Records.”

“Death Grips was and always has been a conceptual art exhibition anchored by sound and vision,” the group concluded. “Above and beyond a ‘band.’ To our truest fans, please stay legend.”

Death Grips, made up of MC Ride, Zach Hill and Flatlander, released four albums (five with The Powers That B) in their lifetime. The group reached critical acclaim from multiple outlets while becoming a label’s worst nightmare, often opting to release entire albums for free on the Internet, rail against their label and cancel shows erratically.
