Michael Jackson Becomes First Artist with Top 10 Singles Over Five Decades

By Kevin Rutherford

For the third straight week, John Legend topped Billboard‘s Hot 100 with “All of Me,” but the bigger story resides further down the top 10.

After its release last week, Michael Jackson‘s “Love Never Felt So Good,” which features Justin Timberlake, debuts inside the Hot 100’s top 10 at No. 9, Billboard reports.

With the new top-10 single, Jackson becomes the first artist in history to score top-10 hits in five different decades — all of which were consecutive. The King of Pop’s streak dates back to 1971, when he reached the top 10 for the first time with “Got to Be There” at No. 4.

Since then, according to Billboard, Jackson has now had 29 singles hit the top 10, third most in history. His most fruitful decade was the ’80s, when 17 of his songs reached that plateau.

Jackson last reached the top 10 13 years ago, when “You Rock My World” peaked at No. 10.

The new mark for Jackson comes after a weekend during which a performance of another one of his new songs, “Slave to the Rhythm,” was performed via hologram at the Billboard Music Awards.

Legend retained the top spot for the third week in a row. The only other debut in the top 10 was Coldplay, whose Avicii collaboration “A Sky Full of Stars” debuted at No. 10. It’s the band’s first top 10 since 2008’s “Vida la Vida” and third overall.
