Watch Jeff Tweedy, the Decemberists, Yo La Tengo & Ginuwine Perform on ‘Parks and Recreation’

By Shannon Carlin

Where can you see Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, the Decemberists, Yo La Tengo and Ginuwine perform together? Well, Pawnee, Indiana, of course.

Last night (April 24) on the season finale of Parks and Recreation the town threw a Unity Concert that featured performances from Tweedy, who performed with his fake reunited band, Land Ho!, while Yo La Tengo dressed up like legendary basketball coach Bobby Knight to perform the hits of Night Ranger under the name, Bobby Knight Ranger.

The Decemberists stopped by to perform “The Crane Wife 3,” while Ben Wyatt’s favorite band, Letters to Cleo also showed up in honor of unity.

But it was Ginuwine, yes, Ginuwine, who stole the show with his performance of “Pony,” which in a bit of revisionist history was originally written in honor of Lil’ Sebastian. Everyone really does love that lil’ horse.

At the end of the night, all the performers came out to play “Five Thousand Candles in the Wind,” a song written for Lil’ Sebastian, next to, what else, but a hologram of the lil’ guy.

Watch the gang perform “Five Thousand Candles in the Wind” with a little help from Pawnee’s legendary sax player, Duke Silver below. And watch the full episode, which also featured a cameo from First Lady Michelle Obama, here
