Listen to Jennifer Hudson’s Sultry Timbaland-Produced ‘Walk It Out’

By Kevin Rutherford

“You must have the rap producer with the know-how of putting tracks together on a new recording,” a robotic voice booms at the beginning of Jennifer Hudson‘s new song, “Walk It Out”. Who could it mean? Pharrell‘s pretty big these days; did the duo team for another track?

Actually, it’s yet another longtime producer in the genre, Timbaland, with whom Hudson’s collaborated for the single, a fact set in stone around a minute into the song, when the producer’s deep voice, vocal effects stacked atop, swoops in with a quick verse before  the Oscar winner gets to work.

“Walk It Out” is a smooth, slow-tempo jam featuring a chorus that jumps from one octave to another with relative ease. On the verses, Hudson croons to a dude who, if she didn’t better, “I’d think you was flirting.” She proceeds to turn the heat up a bit with lines like “I know you wanna take me to your room / And I wanna go your way / But you gotta treat me like a lady.”

The single follows a collaboration with T.I., “I Can’t Describe (The Way I Feel)”, which dropped last year. That song also featured production from a mega-producer with said “know-how”; that’s where Pharrell came into the picture, continuing his recent streak of working with every artist ever.

According to Idolator, the former American Idol contestant has also been working with R. Kelly on new music.

All this is supposedly going to be on a new album from Hudson, her third and first since 2011. It’s potentially slated for a release this year, though no concrete timeframe has been established.
