Taylor Swift Assists Seth Rogen, Ed Sheeran Performs on ‘SNL’

By Annie Reuter

This weekend, Seth Rogen took the Saturday Night Live¬†stage for his third time as host. The show included Coachella spoofs, a debut track from Ed Sheeran and a ton of unexpected cameos. While Rogen was adamant in his monologue that he didn’t need any help from friends, James Franco took the stage to assist, as did Zooey Deschanel with her ukulele. But it was Taylor Swift that was the big surprise.

“Why did you come?” Rogan asked Swift, clearly agitated.

“You’re getting really upset and whenever a man shows emotion, I appear,” Swift replied to laughter, waving her arms like some sort of fairy godmother.

A proud friend of Sheeran’s, Swift was on hand to support her fellow singer-songwriter as he previewed two tracks off his upcoming album, x, due out June 23. His new single, “Sing,” showcased his smooth falsetto which brought to mind Justin Timberlake. Perhaps it comes as no surprise that the track was co-written and produced by Pharrell Williams. Sheeran took the stage later to perform the smooth R&B-flavored “Don’t,” which he debuted on the show. On the breakup track, which was produced by Benny Blanco and Rick Rubin, he steps up his game with rapid-fire lyrics. Watch below.

SNL¬†also referenced this past weekend’s Coachella with its opening monologue, with conservative bigwigs Paul Ryan and Jeb Bush appearing to preach the gospel of the “new” Republican Party before “the Outkasts” went on. A pan of the crowd beforehand included a shot of Lollapalooza, but you know, they tried.
