Steven Tyler, Joe Perry Record New Version of ‘Dream On’ for Bombings Victims Tribute

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry have convened for a new take on the band’s classic hit “Dream On,” this time for a good cause.

According to The Huffington Post, the duo has recorded a new version of the tune in honor of victims of last year’s Boston Marathon bombings.

The recording was created as part of an upcoming ABC special on the bombings — in fact, the special itself takes its name from the song. Dream On: Stories from Boston’s Strongest is set to premiere Saturday (April 12). It’ll air again the following Tuesday on ESPN, the one-year anniversary of the attack.

The new version finds the duo backed by the Southern California Children’s Chorus and features Tyler on piano and Perry on guitar for a more subdued version of the ballad. A 30-second preview clip of the song can be found below.

Aerosmith cites its hometown in Boston, hence the connection. The band also performed at the Boston Strong concert benefit for the bombings last May, along with New Kids on the Block, Dropkick Murphys and more.

The band will set out with Slash on a co-headlining tour this summer, it was announced earlier this week.

The Boston Marathon bombings occurred April 15, 2013, when two pressure cooker bombs exploded near the finish line of the storied marathon. Three people were killed while well over 200 were injured.
