Billboard announced today (April 9) the finalists for the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. Both Imagine Dragons and Lorde lead the nominations in 12 of the 40 award categories, with Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis following close behind with 11, 10 and eight noms respectively.
According to Billboard, Lorde, Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell Williams lead the song race and are each nominated for five title categories with their Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s “Royals” and “Blurred Lines.” Both Imagine Dragons and Perry come in second with four nods each for “Radioactive” and “Roar.”
In addition to the standard awards, the 2014 Milestone Award will be given to “an innovative artist who has achieved a notable chart milestone over the past year.” The six finalists include Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Luke Bryan, OneRepublic, Ellie Goulding and Carrie Underwood. Fans can vote for their favorite Milestone artist online at Billboard.com/milestone.
The Billboard Music Awards finalists are based on fan interactions with music, including album and digital singles sales, radio airplay, touring, streaming and social interactions on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, VEVO, Spotify and other popular online destinations for music. The 2014 Billboard Music Awards will be broadcast live on Sunday, May 18, on ABC at 8 p.m. ET. The ceremony will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
