Last night, Nirvana fans got a bit of a clue as to who will perform at the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tomorrow night (April 10) at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The band posted a photo to their Facebook page showing two guitars, a bass and drum set in a rehearsal space; the drums are likely Dave Grohl‘s, the bass is Krist Novoselic’s, and the black Fender Stratocaster guitar likely belongs to Pat Smear, who joined the touring version of the band after their final album, In Utero, but isn’t being inducted with the group.

The other guitar, by consensus of the Internet, seems to belong to Joan Jett, with this photo being cited as proof of ownership.

It’s an interesting choice, if true. While retired R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe will be presenting the band, he probably wouldn’t do justice to Nirvana’s aggressive sound (and has rarely performed since R.E.M. called it a day). Kurt Cobain, always one to question and poke fun at rock music’s machismo,  would likely approve of the choice of Jett, as opposed to a male guitarist/singer, but that’s not the only reason she makes sense for the performance.

Jett has also performed with Dave Grohl before, joining the Foo Fighters on stage at Madison Square Garden and on “Late Show With David Letterman” in 2011. The Foo Fighters, of course, includes Pat Smear, and Jett produced the only album by Smear’s former band, the Germs (the classic 1979 LP (GI)).

Jett has also graced the stage of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, performing the Dave Clark Five’s “Bits and Pieces” at that band’s induction in 2008. Jett herself has been eligible for the Rock Hall for years and has been on the ballot, but has yet to be voted in. will be at the Barclays Center tomorrow night, reporting on the induction ceremony; an edited version of the show will air in May on HBO.
