While digital music appears to be booming, with major players like Spotify, Pandora and iTunes accessible with just the click of a button, new research has found that radio is still the primary way listeners discover new music.

The Edison Research and Triton Digital recently discovered that AM/FM radios are how most people find new artists. Naturally, word of mouth through friends and family is second with YouTube coming in third.

According to their report, 950 Americans older than 12 were surveyed. Seventy-five perfect said AM/FM radio is the top source for keeping up with music while friends/family was ranked at 66% and YouTube falling at 59%. Pandora was a close fourth at 48% while Facebook, Music Television Channels, and information/displays at local stores and Apple radio all came in around 30%. At the very bottom of the list Spotify and music blogs were tied coming in at 14%. See below.

The study went on to find that while AM/FM Radio is the leading source to keep up-to-date with music, AM/FM Radio streams are also an important part of Online Radio usage. So when someone tells you radio is dead, think again. The facts prove that radio is still alive and kicking.
