UPDATE: In the wake of Avicii’s cancellation, Canadian EDM mega-star Deadmau5 has stepped up to fill in the vacated Saturday night headlining slot. “Well… looks like my stay here in Miami just got extended for a couple more days ;),” Deadmau5 tweeted today (March 28) after the news broke. “Well, stranger s*** has happened… thats for sure. but, glad i could help a friend out and be with my fans tomorrow night :)”
Yesterday (March 28), superstar Avicii was forced to cancel a high-profile club gig in Miami leading up to his headlining appearance at this year’s Ultra Music Festival due to then-unknown ailments. Now word is coming out of Florida that Avicii’s illness will force him to bow out of his Ultra set as well.
According to the Miami Herald, Avicii was taken to hospital suffering from “severe abdominal pain, nausea and fever from a blocked gall bladder,” and that’s he’s scuttled all appearances for the next week.
“I was with Tim at the hospital last night and this morning,” the DJ’s manager, Ash Pournouri. “He was really disappointed that he wasn’t able… to perform for all his fans.”
The cancellation comes when Avicii’s star status is higher than it’s ever been, boasting his own branded hotel and pop-up shop in Miami this week to coincide with the annual EDM-focused Winter Music Conference and Ultra.
The Miami Herald also points out that this is the third time Avicii has had to cancel shows due to health issues, being hospitalized in both 2012 and 2013 for symptoms related to pancreatis, believed to be caused by the DJs hard-partying lifestyle.
