KISS Lands the Cover of ‘Rolling Stone’ For the First Time Ever

By Scott T. Sterling

Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, KISS —the list of giant rock bands historically snubbed during their respective heydays by Rolling Stone magazine has long been a sore spot for the bands’ rabid fans bases.

While Zeppelin and Floyd eventually landed on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, it’s taken until 2014 —more than four decades after the band was formed— for KISS to find its place on that revered cover position.

An image of KISS’ legendary original lineup of Ace Frehley, Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss is set to grace the front of the mag’s latest issue (on newsstands March 28) to mark the band being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year.

The induction comes with plenty of rock and roll drama, with KISS’ longstanding divide between Simmons and Stanley versus Frehley and Criss on the other coming to the surface after the band pulled any potential KISS performance at the ceremony over line-up bickering.

All four original members are interviewed for the cover story, during which Stanley admitted that there’s even acrimony between himself and Simmons, despite the two still playing together all these years later.

“We’ve always seen each other as brothers. What we seem to be at odds at is how you treat your brother,” Stanley revealed. “Gene’s priority, by far, has always been himself. And he’s not one to let anyone else’s feelings or contributions get in the way.”

“How many chances in life to do you get? Both of those guys had three chances to be in the band,” Simmons told “Three times they f***ed it up…When you have a cancer in your system, its best to cut it out as fast as you can,” he added about his former band-mates. “It used to be part of your body, it turned into cancer. You gotta cut it out. I believe that both Ace and Peter are happier now. They belong home, and doing autograph shows in clubs. They’re happier.”

KISS, NirvanaCat Stevens, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates and Linda Ronstadt will all be inducted at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on April 10 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
