Q-Tip Teaming Up with Leonardo DiCaprio for New TV Show

By Shannon Carlin

Q-Tip’s life may be coming to the small screen this fall, thanks to his longtime buddy Leonardo DiCaprio.

According to Deadline, the two are developing a scripted TV series together that will be loosely based on Q’s experience with his hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest during the early ’80s and ’90s.

The show will reportedly reflect on Q-Tip’s friendship with his fellow Tribe bandmates — Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White — who he’s known since high school. The band’s dynamic was previously covered in the 2011 documentary Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest, directed by actor Michael Rapaport.

The show will also look at the role the New York group’s Afro-centric music played in the culture then and now.

The name of the writer has not been revealed as of yet, but the series will be produced through DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way. DiCaprio’s Wolf of Wall Street co-star, Jonah Hill is also reportedly involved in the series, but it is unclear at this time what his role will be.

The site also reports that the show could be pitched to networks as early as next week.

A Tribe Called Quest recently reunited for Kanye West’s show in Brooklyn. Shortly after the gig, Q-Tip announced that he’ll be working on Kanye’s Yeezus follow-up.

If Q-Tip wasn’t busy enough, the rapper recently dropped a free mixtape called The Abstract and the Dragon with Busta Rhymes.
