Ever since 2004, when producer Danger Mouse propelled himself to stardom by combining the Beatles‘ White Album with Jay Z‘s The Black Album to create The Grey Album, the idea of mixing disparate songs into one mind-bending track has become something of a cottage industry for the most adept.
Now, two industrious producers have taken the concept to a most unexpected extreme, blending the vocals of Psy’s 2012 monster smash “Gangnam Style” with the instrumentals from Linkin Park’s 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory, to craft Psybrid Theory under the moniker Gangnam Park.
The surprisingly cohesive piece is a collaboration between YouTube users “TripleKyun” and “RosalinaSama,” giving each song on Hybrid Theory its own Psy-centric title, such as “One Step Closer” becoming “One Style Closer” and “In the End” turning into “In the Gangnam.”
Linkin Park is scheduled to perform the original Hybrid Theory in its entirety when the band headlines the 2014 Download Festival in England.
“We have been kicking around the idea of playing Hybrid Theory for some time and the perfect opportunity is Download 2014,” Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington told Metal Hammer. “The legendary energy of the Download crowd is the apex of the rock experience and we are very excited to share this special night with them.”
