Beyoncé Sells 80,000 Copies of Her New Album in Three Hours

By Scott T. Sterling

In a year marked by the album release spectacle, Beyoncé has just trumped them all without any advance hyper or fanfare whatsoever. With the “Single Ladies” superstar shocking the music world by unexpectedly releasing her fifth studio full-length at midnight (Dec. 13) exclusively through iTunes, the album entitled Beyoncé sold an impressive 80,000 copies in its first three hours of availability.

According to Billboard, it’s too early to even project how many copies the album will move over the three days left in the sales tracking week. But it’s already shifted half of what Garth Brooks new compilation and last week’s No. 1, Blame It All On My Roots: Five Decades Of Influences, is expected to sell (150,000-160,000) over the full seven days.
