Jay Z, currently supporting his recent album, Magna Carta Holy Grail with the “Magna Carter Tour,” has added a tribute to the late South African hero Nelson Mandela to recent shows.

The tribute comes during the performance of “Young Forever,” the fourth single from 2009 full-length The Blueprint 3 that samples the 1984 Alphaville song, “Forever Young.”

Images of Mandela flash on big screens flanking the stage as the song begins in concert, with the rapper talking about his respect for the leader and encouraging fans to use Mandela as an example and follow their dreams.

Jay Z has made the dedication at shows in Los Angeles, and San Diego. There is no indication yet if the Mandela tribute will become a permanent part of the “Magna Carter” tour going forward.

In other news, Jay Z has been generating headlines in the sports world, having recently negotiated a blockbuster contract for his Roc Nation Sports client, baseball star Robinson Cano. The one-time New York Yankee will now play for the Seattle Mariners with a 10 year contract worth $240 million. The deal is especially notable since it went through despite sports writers all over the country claiming that Jay Z had blown the deal by demanding such an expensive and long-term contract for a 31-year-old player.
