Katy Perry‘s latest video for “Unconditionally” marks new territory for the singer. Gone are the whipped cream bras and firework displays. Instead, it’s Perry at her most classical.
“It doesn’t have a complete narrative. I do that all the time; I usually have quite a big story line,” she told MTV. “This time I wanted to give a lot of gorgeous, beautiful looks, which I don’t usually go for. But it’s mostly just a beautiful video that is supposed to evoke this power of love.”
Directed by Brent Bonacorso, the video explores the impact of love using dramatic imagery, which includes Perry laying in a bed of colorful flowers, getting hit by a car and a well-choreographed dance performance.
The video displays Perry in plenty of gorgeous looks from Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Wes Gordon, but the over-the-top love song also showcases her soaring vocals.
Perry wrote “Unconditionally” with Lukasz Gottwald, Max Martin and Henry Walter. The second single off Prism, “Unconditionally” is climbing steadily on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, currently clocking in at No. 21.
