Miles Davis Biopic ‘Kill the Trumpet Player’ Is Happening, Starring Don Cheadle
A Miles Davis biopic is closer to seeing the light of day. Actor Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda, Iron Man 2) has been cast to play the role of legendary jazz artist Miles Davis in Kill the Trumpet Player.
In addition to playing the lead role, the film will be written, directed and produced by Cheadle. Kill the Trumpet Player also features Ewan McGregor as a Rolling Stone reporter and Zoe Saldana as Davis’ former wife Frances. Davis’ collaborator Herbie Hancock will also be involved in the film.
According to the production company, BiFrost Pictures, the film will focus on when Davis temporarily retired from making music and his re-emergence in 1979.
Miles Davis was an American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. Davis is considered by many as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. He helped champion several developments in jazz music including bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, and jazz fusion. Davis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
Production for Kill the Trumpet Player will begin in June of 2014.
