That roar of high-pitched screams heard reverberating off in the distance? It’s just the sound of millions of One Direction fans around the world reacting to the release of the boy band’s new song “Story of My Life,” the second single from their upcoming third full-length album, Midnight Memories.
One Direction had stoked the feverish fervor of their fans by posting a 16-second clip of the new song to the band’s Soundcloud page earlier this week, generating close to 1.5 million listens in just three days.
For a boy band steeped in the soaring harmonies and feel-good melodies of pop, the initial teaser clip found One Direction taking on a galloping rhythm and layered acoustic guitars more reminiscent of GRAMMY-winning folkies Mumford & Sons than typical tween-pop.
Midnight Memories is set to kickstart the 2013 holiday season when it’s released on November 25 in the United States, just two days before Thanksgiving and, more importantly, three days before the biggest shopping day of the year, Black Friday.
