Reporting Jay Tilles
It’s not like we don’t know Skrillex flies around the world dropping distorted beats on the civilized world, but in the new video for ‘Try It Out (Neon Mix)’ the king of dubstep reinforces that his musical footprint reaches even corners of the globe that lack running water.
Directed by Alvin Risk and Skrillex himself, the clip shows the DJ on safari being chased by an elephant, at a zoo kissing a tiger cub, stage diving, unpacking a girl stuffed in a suitcase, stunning massive crowds with flame-throwing special effects and hanging out with Jack Black, Zedd and the clock-necklace-wearing Flava Flav.
According to Skrillex, the track “sets a perfect mood for exercising, hunting T-Rexs, swimming in volcanos, playing with catbug, playing video games, or just hanging out with your parents on a cool summer’s night. If you’re feeling like you need a lil umph in your rumph, bang this track and get pumped up for whatever ever it is you’re trying out.”
For “Try It Out,” he teamed Alvin Risk, signed to the OWSLA label, which Skrillex co-owns with Tim “Bitvargen” Smith, Kathryn Frazier, and Clayton Blaha. Although the track features as-expected sharp notes and ample square-wave bass, the GRAMMY-winning producer also weaves in hip hop-inspired vocals. The song is accompanied by two additional mixes when purchased on iTunes.
Skrillex will set out on a brief North American tour this November.
