It’s no secret that Snoop Dogg is open to taking on commercial endorsements. The weed-friendly rapper has popped up in spots for pistachios, old-school malt liquor Colt 45 and even online shopping site Overstock.com.
Now, Snoop Doggy Dogg has teamed up with model Kate Upton to extol the deliciousness of those microwaveable snacks known as Hot Pockets with a splashy music video that’s loaded with cameos from such celebs as Bow Wow and Larry King.
The four-and-a-half-minute clip is called “You’ve Got What I Eat,” with the catchy ad set to the tune of rapper Biz Markie‘s 1989 hip-hop classic, “Just a Friend.” It’s the second time Snoop Dogg has worked with Hot Pockets, having already created the “Pocket Like it’s Hot” campaign late last year.
The irreverent clip features Upton returning home from a night out and chomping into a steamy Hot Pocket while watching Snoop Dogg in a televised debate with cable talk show host Larry King over what’s the best part of the snack, the crust or the meat. Upton falls into a surreal slumber, where she romps with Snoop Dogg in a surreal dreamworld.
The clip also references Biz Markie’s original video for “Just a Friend” with shots of Upton and Snoop Dogg performing at a grand piano in an ornate living room, complete with with split-screen images.
“I love working with the Hot Pockets sandwiches team. They let me do what I do and bring the funk out with their message you know?” Snoop Dogg said in a press release. “We needed to top ‘Pocket Like It’s Hot,’ and this video is so dope. It’s funnier and we got the flyest girl in it with me.”
“I had so much fun making this video with Snoop, (actor) Oliver (Cooper) and the Hot Pockets sandwiches team,” added Kate Upton of the experience. “I love the premium meats and the buttery seasoned crusts of the new Hot Pockets sandwiches.”
