CBGBs may be long gone, but there are those who want to keep its spirit alive. In October, in celebration of the iconic venue’s 40th anniversary, the second annual CBGB Music & Film Festival will return to New York. This time around, the festival is free and features live performances by My Morning Jacket, The Wallflowers, Grizzly Bear, Divine Fits, Atlas Genius, Bell X1, Lisa Loeb, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Jr., Hani El Khatib, a special DJ set by James Murphy (DFA / LCD Soundsystem), and hundreds more.
On October 12, New York’s Times Square will be converted to a mini music festival as live music and DJs will perform on multiple outdoor stages on Broadway. Interactive installations including a music equipment expo, a skateboard half-pipe, rock climbing, a record fair, a silent disco and dozens of additional attractions will take over Times Square.
The 2013 CBGB Music & Film Festival will run from Oct. 8 – 13 in venues throughout New York City. Expect more than 500 artists, 125 speakers and 100 films. Music aficionados can attend a Red Carpet premier of CBGB The Movie, the festival kickoff, at the Landmark Theater. Tickets and badges are limited. Visit cbgb.com for more information.
