Britney Spears has been hard at work on her forthcoming album, but little has been revealed up until now. While will.i.am has confirmed he’s executive producer of the album, Spears’ manager Larry Rudolph talked with Billboard and provided some insight into the songwriters she’s been working with as well as her upcoming residency show at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
Having whittled down 600 songs to 28 for her Vegas residency, Rudolph told Billboard her upcoming two-year show Britney Spears: Piece of Me is “a new chapter in the Britney Spears saga.”
The show will include plenty of dancing as well as Spears’ greatest hits and new music from her forthcoming album, due for release Dec. 3. While no title has been decided, Rudolph says the album is “so different from anything she’s done before.”
“Will.i.am is executive producing it. After the ‘Scream & Shout’ exercise, which went so well, the public seems to really like Britney and Will together,” he said. “There’s something about them that works. He understands who she is and what her audience wants.”
Spears co-wrote every track on the album and there are a few songs she wrote entirely on her own as she wanted to make a very personal album. Expect a breakup ballad called “Perfume” that Spears wrote with Sia, likely to be her next single.
“It’s a breakup song that’s about wanting the next girl to smell your perfume on the guy afterwards. The lyric is really unique and she sings the sh** out of it,” he said. “I think everyone will be really impressed by the song.”
Rudolph also said fans can expect a modern EDM vibe mixed in with a Madonna Ray of Light vibe, saying that he thinks this is Spears’ Ray of Light album. Spears’ Las Vegas residency kicks off on December 27.
