The clip features a young couple who are trying to decide whether they should spend the night together. The well choreographed push and pull perfectly mimics the Paramore frontwoman’s words, “Are you gonna stay the night?/ Doesn’t mean we’re bound for life.”
While Zedd spends most of the time behind his piano, Williams gets into the groove showing off her own dance moves and shaking her newly shorn hair.
In an interview with Radio.com, Williams admitted she wrote the lyrics to the song in her bathtub. “I was actually getting into the shower and it just happened,” Williams explained. “The words just came to me and I got out immediately and wrote everything down.”
And though the two have yet to meet one another, Williams said she felt a kinship with the EDM superstar.
“He’s a DJ and there’s a lot of DJs right now getting a lot of exposure, but I could really tell the first time I heard his track ‘Clarity’ there’s so much depth to him and there’s such, I don’t know, the tonalities that he picks out feel like something that’s in tune with my heart,” she said. “Those sounds that you hear and you feel like you always knew them.”
