Goulding’s loungey take on the song off Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience features an acoustic guitar and a little piano, along with the British singer’s raspy delivery, which adds a little added sexiness to the ballad. She brings it home at the end with help from a choir taking on a little three-part harmony.
The singer has become known for her genre-bending covers including fun.’s “Some Nights,” Rihanna’s “Only Girl In The World,” Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and Elton John’s “Your Song,” which she performed at the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Goulding just released Halcyon Days, the expanded reissue of her 2012 album, Halcyon, featuring ten new songs. In an interview with Radio.com, she said she released the updated version as a way to keep it around a little longer.
“Basically, after my album came out, it’s been a weird time for me,” she said. “I feel like now I’m so much deeper into Halcyon that I just wanted to expand it. I wanted it to last longer, because I’m not done with this record yet. For anyone else, it might be a time to move on and make another record, but I don’t think it’s the end yet.”
