Chris Brown is the target of a new lawsuit filed by Sha’keir Duarte, who claims he was punched and kicked by a member of Brown’s entourage during a fight between Brown and Frank Ocean last January. Durate, who is reportedly Ocean’s cousin, is suing Brown for assault and battery.
The January fight between Ocean and Brown reportedly started after Brown parked in Ocean’s parking spot outside of a Westlake Recording Studio in Hollywood, California. A police report stated that after Ocean refused to shake Brown’s hand, Brown punched Ocean in the face and members of each person’s entourage started fighting, including Duarte.
Billboard, via The Associated Press, reports that the suit claims Duarte suffered a concussion as well as humiliation and mental anguish as a result of the attack. The suit also claims that Brown taunted Duarte and threatened that the fight could escalate into a shooting.
Brown was quoted in the police report in January as saying, “We can bust you too!” inferring he was going to shoot Ocean.
The suit was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court for unspecified damages.
Brown’s attorney Mark Geragos stated that the charges are frivolous, “This is what gives lawyers and lawsuits a bad name is garbage like this.”
Geragos will seek to dismiss the lawsuit and countersue Duarte.
