Today (July 23) McGraw premiered the video for “Southern Girl” exclusively on country radio websites. Watch it right here:
The song is “just one of my favorite tracks” from Two Lanes of Freedom, McGraw told Radio.com in an interview earlier this year. It’s got a groove that he called “breezy” and “funky,” noting that the song “has this laid-back feel” but that “there’s an intensity to it as well.”
“Southern Girl” is the fourth single from Two Lanes of Freedom, coming after his recent No. 1 smash “Highway Don’t Care” (which featured Taylor Swift and Keith Urban) as well as two songs released last year — “Truck Yeah” and “One of Those Nights.”
“Southern Girl” was written by Jaren Johnston, Rodney Clawson (who also cowrote “One of Those Nights”), and Lee Thomas Miller.
“We brought cameras out on the road and turned them around on the crowd,” McGraw explained regarding the music video, “and they really helped us capture the fun summer groove of this song.”
Earlier this week, McGraw leaked a few images from the “Southern Girl” video on his Twitter account:

And speaking of Twitter, the country superstar hosted a live Twitter chat with fans, who followed along through the hashtag #TMSouthernGirl.
McGraw’s team even tweeted out a photo of him in action during the chat:

If the “Southern Girl” video leaves you wanting even more McGraw, the CBS-TV special Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Nights will air again this Friday (July 26) at 8pm ET. You can get a taste of what’s in store by watching our Radio.com Essentials profile on McGraw.
This year has been a busy one for McGraw. The guy’s had 20 years worth of hit songs, but he’s not about to rest on his past achievements. “I feel there’s way more ahead of me than behind me,” he told Radio.com earlier this year. “It’s just sort of an open road. I’m really only 35 percent into what I’m here to do musically.”
