Jay-Z Partnering With Third Man For Vinyl Releases Including Playable ‘Open Letter’
It seems Jay-Z let the cat out of the bag a little early.
A day after H.O.V. revealed during an impromptu Twitter chat that his song “Open Letter” would appear on a vinyl edition of Magna Carta… Holy Grail, put out by Jack White’s Third Man Records, the label confirmed that they are in fact releasing the record.
Third Man’s site let Jay’s fans know that they have a few things up their sleeve for the release of the vinyl special edition, which yes, will also include a vinyl copy of his self-released single “Open Letter,” Jay’s kiss-off to all those people wondering how he got permission to go to Cuba. Turns out he just went there on a “people-to-people” cultural visit, a license that President Obama enacted in 2011 to make it easier for Americans to visit the country legally.
Ever the secret keepers, though, Third Man did not give an exact release date for the record, writing only that it would be out in the upcoming weeks, and to keep an eye here.
Jay decided to get a little more chatty about “Open Letter” with a New York radio station, letting fans know that the single will be a “playable letter” on vinyl. We’ll let Jay explain exactly what that means.
“It’s in a letter … You can play the letter,” he explained about the vinyl exclusive. ”It’s amazing. You open the letter and you can actually play the card like a vinyl.”
Still confused? We are too, but it sure sounds fun.
