Grouplove, the Los Angeles band that broke out in a major way with 2011 hit “Tongue Tied,” have returned with “Ways to Go,” the first single from the band’s forthcoming album, Spreading Rumors, which is set for release on September 17.
The catchy and dynamic new song brings more of Grouplove’s signature infectious energy, this time married to an uplifting synth-pop groove that’s sure to become a summer 2013 feel-good anthem. Diehard fans who’ve seen the band in concert may already be familiar with the tune, as it’s been making regular appearances on Grouplove setlists in recent months.
“Ways To go” “came magically” to the band during the album’s recording session in an “old Motown house” in the Hollywood Hills explained frontman Christian Zucconi in an interview with KROQ’s Kevin & Bean. “We just kinda ran with it the night it came together… and really got excited about it and it just kinda surprised us. “
To accompany the song, the band produced a fun video featuring a young Kim Jong-un spreading peace while dancing Gangnam style.
2013 has already been a busy year for Grouplove, with the band performing at a slew of music festivals, including the first BottleRock Napa Valley fest and the Hangout festival in Alabama.
“Ways to Go” is hoping to have as big of an impact as the platinum-certified “Tongue Tied” (from their 2011 debut full-length, Never Trust a Happy Song), which spent three straight weeks at No. 1 of the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. It also has the distinction of being the second most-played song on alternative rock radio in 2012, only surpassed by Gotye’s monster hit, “Somebody That I Used to Know.”
Fans hoping to catch the band live this year can see Grouplove when they perform at Milwaukee’s Summerfest 2013 on June 26, as well as appearances at both weekends of Austin City Limits 2013, scheduled for October 4-6 and October 11-13.
