It seems high-waisted shorts and pants are beloved by all this season. Jessie Ware told us they’re her favorite on-stage item, and when Carly Rae Jepsen sat down for an interview with Radio.com, she sung their praises as well.
“For me, [high-waisted] is a pretty easy go-to and I like the casualness of it,” Jepsen said. “You can wear a colorful halter with it. You can wear any sort of crop-top thing and it feels really great for the summer festivals. You can dress it up or dress it down. If you want to do a blazer and a hat and heels or if you want to just go [with] Keds and rock it, it’s an easy look.”
But the path to being comfortable comes with some trial and error. Jepsen recounted a recent learning experience with some accessories that didn’t quite work out.
“We had a hilarious mishap the other day because we had these, like — I would almost call them boob tassels,” Jepsen said, laughing. “I don’t know, there’s no other word for it… The idea was when I spun, I would have these streamers everywhere coming down from my neck.”
The one thing Jepsen and her costume designer didn’t account for was enthusiasm.
“[It] was a great idea until I brought out my little telephone cord mic and was doing some spins and really getting into the song. I looked down and I realized that the tassels have entwined themselves around the microphone cable and I can’t unhook it. So, I’m literally attached — at the boob — to my microphone cable.”
Jepsen had to be cut out of the costume and continued the show.
“I would say, a note of advice: have fun, don’t wear boob tassels. It’s not a good idea.”
