Brett Eldredge’s New Album Will Showcase His ‘Serious And Wacky’ Sides

Brett Eldredge is gearing up for a busy 2013. Earlier this month, he announced his debut album will be released August 6. It will feature his current single “Don’t Ya” as well his debut single, 2010’s poignant “Raymond,” which was inspired by his grandmother’s battle with Alzheimer’s.

Eldredge’s breakthrough hit “Raymond” showcases his sensitive side and his ability to sing a powerful ballad. The slow track paints the picture of a woman dealing with Alzheimer’s, who mistakes a nursing home staffer for her son. Meanwhile, his latest song, “Don’t Ya,” hints at his playful side. With a light drum beat, delicate banjo and his smooth singing style his versatility brings to mind that of Chris Young as he switches effortlessly from the serious topics to the more lighthearted songs.

Taking a break from traveling the nation with Taylor Swift on her Red Tour, the rising country star visited and filled us in on what to expect from his new music.

“‘Raymond’ will be on the album,” he said. “That was a very important song to me. My grandmother had Alzheimer’s and I wrote that song from the experience of watching her go through it.”

He said that the album will include “a good mixture of the serious side of me,” but he was also quick to note he’s plenty “wacky and crazy, too.”

Though Eldredge wrote many of the tracks on the album, he also enlisted some of Nashville’s most recognized songwriters, like his friend Luke Laird (Little Big Town, Carrie Underwood, Eric Church).

“It’s such a process,” he said of songwriting. “You show up in a room, just you and another person or a couple other people, and you come in with an empty room of nothing, and then all of a sudden you create this whole song that might end up touching a bunch of people’s lives, or make them want to cry, or make them want to dance or whatever they need in that part in their life.”
