Listen To Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’ Now

"We worked on this record way too long."

After months of savvy promotion and fan excitement, electronic luminaries Daft Punk have launched a live stream of their new full-length, Random Access Memories, via iTunes, today (May 13). The album is set to be officially released through Columbia Records next week (May 21).

While many major music releases are streamed ahead of the official release date, Daft Punk’s sudden launch of Random Access Memories came almost concurrently with an online leak of the record that rapidly spread across the Internet today.

While some listeners were eager to snap up the illegal leak, a few artists took to Twitter to denounce the downloaders, such as stalwart Chicago DJ/producer Tommie Sunshine.

With the album’s release date only a week away, Daft Punk spoke to BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe on his popular radio show today (May 13) to discuss what it took to bring the concept for Random Access Memories into reality.

“It was more a relief, I think,” Daft Punk member Thomas Bangalter said about completing the record. “We worked over a period of five years, with probably three years nonstop on it, which is way beyond human sanity. We worked on this record way too long, but that’s what it took to grab the magic…maybe that’s the difference between being a wizard and just a magician. It takes time to capture those little moments of magic and to reorganize them and put them together.”

The album stream came just hours after the group released a teaser video depicting the pair on what appears to be a spaceship unveiling a vinyl copy of Random Access Memories. In the clip, the robots cue up the album’s opening track, playing the opening seconds of “Give Life Back to Music.”

“Get Lucky,” the first single from Random Access Memories, debuted at No. 14 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, and is currently enjoying a three-week run at No. 1 on the U.K. charts.
