The duo have previously collaborated on Spears’ most recent album, 2011′s Femme Fatale, with the track “Big Fat Bass,” which will.i.am wrote and produced as well as guested on. More recently, will.i.am enlisted Spears as a guest vocalist on his track “Scream & Shout.”
Following the success of “Scream & Shout,” which was remixed by hip-hop heavyweights Hit-Boy, Diddy, Waka Flocka Flame and Lil Wayne, will.i.am told Rolling Stone that he will act as executive producer on Spears’ forthcoming album.
“After I did a song on Femme Fatale – ‘Big Fat Bass’ – and then we did ‘Scream & Shout,’ she really liked the way we worked because of my approach,” will.i.am said. “So they asked me to be involved in, not producing and writing every song, but to be an executive producer on the songs.”
While will.i.am didn’t give away too many details, he promised to bring out a different side of the singer.
“We can’t do another song about going on the dance floor,” will.i.am said. “Really? Didn’t we see a bunch of Britney doing that already? Don’t we want to see something that comes from her heart?”
An official release date is still TBD, but last month Spears revealed new music is on the way. She’ll be releasing a new track called “Ooh La La,” which will be featured in The Smurfs 2 movie, which hits theaters July 31.
