Obama Laughs Off Cuba Controversy: ‘Got 99 Problems And Jay-Z Is Now One’

President Barack Obama kicked off his speech at the White House Correspondents’ dinner on Saturday (April 27) with DJ Khaled‘s “All I Do Is Win” as his introductory music.

“How do you like my new entrance music,” he said. “My advisors were a little worried about the new rap entrance music.”

The rap references didn’t stop at Khaled’s theme music. He went on to speak on Jay-Z’s trip to Cuba with a jab at Bill O’ Reilly, the Fox News host who regularly takes on rappers and the content of hip-hop music.

“Some things are beyond my control,” President Obama said. “For example, this whole controversy about Jay-Z going to Cuba. It’s unbelievable. I got 99 problems and now Jay-Z is one. That’s another rap reference Bill O’ Reilly.”

In April, Jay-Z and Beyoncé took a trip to Cuba that put a spotlight on President Obama. Senator Marco Rubio and other legislators called for an investigation into the couple’s trip to see if they violated the embargo that prohibits American citizens from visiting Cuba as tourists.

Jay-Z released the scathing rebuttal to his critics, a song called “Open Letter” in which he references a presumably fictional conversation with the president.

“Obama said ‘Chill, you gonna get me impeached,’” he raps. “You don’t need this s*** anyway/ Chill with me on the beach…”

At last year’s Correspondents’ Dinner, President Obama gave a shout out to Young Jeezy.

“In my first term, I sang Al Green,” Obama said. “In my second term I’m going with Young Jeezy. Michelle said yeah,” he continued, echoing Jeezy’s trademark, “yeeeeeeah” ad lib. “I sing that to Michelle sometime.”
